Veiled Lady Bust after Antonio Frilli

A 20th-century cast composition bust of the Veiled Lady, after Antonio Frilli — the Florentine sculptor whose veiled marble brides have been loved for well over a century. Signed on the reverse "A. Frilli Firenze Italy." And set into the underside of the base, a metal medallion reproducing the reverse of Jean Duvivier’s celebrated 1717 Paris Mint medal — Fame sounding her two trumpets beneath the Virgilian motto VIRES ACQUIRIT EUNDO, "she gathers strength as she goes."

A sculpture that gives any shelf or console the quiet gravity of something much older.
